Navigating up from Rejection and Disappointment

Navigating up from Rejection and Disappointment (303652)

*Nancy Geller, Office of Biostatistics Research
*Karen Bandeen-Roche, The Johns Hopkins University

Keywords: Rejection, career path navigation, pursuing your goals

Not everyone is perfect, although we (who have gotten as far as we have) all strive for perfection. The speakers will describe their own experiences, both professionally and intellectually in dealing with subjects which are often taboo: not getting it right the first time; coming to grips when demands simply beyond what one can manage.

Acquiring the confidence to continue pursuing your goals despite setbacks is difficult, but necessary. Finding the right mentor(or more than one) is very helpful, especially when your own path is not crystal clear. When opportunities arise to do something you have never done before, it is a big plus to have a “yes I can" attitude. Following the autobiographical talks, the floor will be open for discussion.
