Invited Session Proposals – Deadline September 6, 2016

Closes: September 6, 2016

To submit an invited session proposal, you will need the following:

  1. Session Type (Invited)
  2. Session Subtype (Paper or Panel)
  3. Sponsor (Outside Organization, ASA Committee, ASA Section, Sponsoring Society, ASA Journal). A pull-down screen with a pre-approved list is provided; select no more than three.
  4. Session Title
  5. Session Description. Please provide any of the following information:
    • Short description of session, including focus, content, timeliness, and appeal
    • List of invited speakers/panelists, including affiliations and email addresses for each and tentative title for each presentation
    • Format of session (e.g., chair, 3 speakers, and discussant)
  6. Session organizer, including affiliation and email address
  7. Session chair, including affiliation and email address
  8. Discussant (if any), including affiliation and email address

Submitted proposals will be available for editing July 14–September 6, 2016 (11:59 p.m. ET). To edit a session, you will need the confirmation number and password.

Topic-Contributed Session Proposals – Deadline January 11, 2017

Opens: December 1, 2016
Closes: January 11, 2017

To submit a topic-contributed session proposal, you will need the following:

  1. Session Type (Topic-Contributed)
  2. Session Subtype (Paper or Panel)
  3. Sponsor (ASA Committee, ASA Section, Sponsoring Society). A pull-down screen with a pre-approved list is provided; select no more than three.
  4. Session Title
  5. Session Description. Please provide any of the following information:
    • Short description of session, including focus, content, timeliness, and appeal
    • List of invited speakers/panelists, including affiliations and email addresses for each and tentative title for each presentation
    • Format of session (Paper sessions require 5 speakers. This must be least three presenters and, at most, two discussants; each speaker has 20 minutes to present.)
  6. Session organizer, including affiliation and email address
  7. Session chair, including affiliation and email address
  8. Discussant (if any), including affiliation and email address

Submitted proposals will be available for editing December 1–January 11 (11:59 p.m. ET). To edit a session, you will need the confirmation number and password.

Abstract Submissions – Deadline February 1, 2017

Presentations may be given on any topic of statistical interest; however, authors are encouraged to submit papers on the theme set by 2017 ASA President Barry Nussbaum, “Statistics: It's Essential.” Additionally, abstracts with a primary focus on statistical applications are encouraged.

Presenters may elect to use one of the following formats:

Contributed Paper
Contributed Poster
Speed Presentation
Topic-Contributed* Paper or Panel
Roundtable Discussion (A.M. or P.M.)

*Session ID and organizer information required

To submit a contributed session abstract, you will need the following:

  1. Session Type (Contributed )
  2. Session Subtype (Paper, Speed, or Poster )
  3. Primary Sponsor (ASA Committee, ASA Section, JSM Sponsoring Society). A pull-down screen with a pre-approved list is provided.
  4. Abstract Title
  5. Abstract Text
  6. Abstract Keywords
  7. Presenting author and co-author contact information. Please note, there can only be one presenting author. Accurate and unique email addresses are required for all authors.
  8. Note if the abstract can be considered for alternate session subtypes. The program committee will not have space for all paper abstracts received. Acceptance is more likely if the presentation can be made in different session formats.

After You Submit

The presenting author listed on each abstract will be notified via email on March 30, 2017, of the following:

  • Session number
  • Date and time of session in which abstract has been programmed
  • Contact information for session chair
  • A web link to the preliminary online program
  • A web link to where you can edit your abstract
  • A web link to detailed information about your responsibilities as a JSM organizer, chair, discussant, speaker, panelist, or poster presenter
  • Draft manuscript deadlines
  • Speaker Management Room information

Revisions

You may revise your abstract text, title, and keywords or add coauthors from December 1, 2016, through February 1, 2017, and March 30, 2017, through April 18, 2017.

Proof of Progress

All presenters must send proof of a paper in progress to the appropriate JSM session chair by May 17, 2017. Proof of a paper in progress can be a draft manuscript, detailed outline, PowerPoint slides, etc. If you do not send the required proof, your paper will be deleted from the program and be ineligible for publication in the JSM Proceedings. This requirement applies to all contributed and topic-contributed speakers (including poster presentations) and invited sessions with discussants.

Proceedings – Deadline October 1, 2017

Thank you for attending the 2017 Joint Statistical Meetings last August in Baltimore, Maryland. Included in your registration fee was access to the 2017 JSM Proceedings. The proceedings are now complete and available online.

ASA Members

Please log in to ASA Members Only. At the bottom of the menu bar on the left, select JSM Proceedings and choose 2017. If you prefer a CD-ROM of the proceedings, please request a copy be mailed to you.

The papers are in PDF format and can be searched by author, sponsor, session number, meeting, or keyword. You can access a paper by clicking on its title.

If you have trouble viewing any of the papers, please download the newest version of Adobe Acrobat. If you experience other technical difficulty, contact CadmiumCD at support@eventScribe.com.

Non-ASA Members

You should have received an email from CadmiumCD with a link to the proceedings and an access code. If you did not, please contact CadmiumCD at support@eventScribe.com.
