Baltimore is generally hot and sunny in late July into early August. The temperature can be very warm during the day, but be prepared for a strong breeze off the Chesapeake Bay. Suggested Attire

We suggest dressing in light-weight layers or business casual clothes and comfortable shoes for walking around the city and convention center. Be prepared with a light-weight jacket or sweater for evenings and when attending sessions and meetings, as the convention center and hotels are air-conditioned.

Restaurants

What makes Baltimore dining so enticing is the variety it offers. The city’s mix of regional culture and ethnic cuisines is spread out among the many neighborhoods in the area. Once you’ve enjoyed the local crab specialties you’ll find in Fell’s Point and the Inner Harbor, you might savor authentic Mexican cuisine in Federal Hill, tickle your taste buds in Mount Vernon with an Indian or Afghan meal, treat yourself to a Greek feast in Canton, or satisfy your stomach with some good old American dishes in Hampden. For homemade pasta and Italian pizzerias, you best head to Little Italy.

Baltimore Attractions

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is an attraction in itself. But, surrounding this urban waterfront park, you’ll discover a number of family-friendly places to visit. The National Aquarium features more than 16,000 animals, from sharks to a giant sea turtle, while the Maryland Science Center’s highlights include two-story dinosaurs and interactive exhibits to keep the kids busy. The Port Discovery Children’s Museum features more activities for the little ones, and, a short ride away, the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore’s Druid Hill Park engages young and young at heart with the giraffe-feeding station and more. Child Care

We have partnered with leading child care provider KiddieCorp to offer JSM attendees child care for children 6 months to 12 years old. Care will be located within the Baltimore Convention Center for $12/hour. Snacks and beverages will be included, but meals should be provided by parents. Details, pricing, and reservation information are available on the KiddieCorp–JSM 2017 web page. Space is limited, so reserve early.

Travel Information

Airport
Baltimore is served by three major airports. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is located 15 miles from the Baltimore Convention Center, but attendees can also fly into Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

Car Rental

Rail

Baltimore is also accessible via Amtrak and MARC trains.

Public Transportation

In addition to the MARC Train, the Maryland Transit Administration operates local and commuter bus routes, as well as a light rail system, with stations at BWI International Airport and near the Baltimore Convention Center.

Parking

There are a number of parking garages near the Baltimore Convention Center, including many at the JSM hotels. More information is available from the convention center.

The ASA Meetings Department will contact you prior to JSM, but appropriate accommodations cannot be ensured without prior notification.

Most of the JSM events will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center; however, many meetings and other events will be held at the Hilton Baltimore. If you have trouble walking long distances and/or will use a wheelchair, we recommend staying at the Hilton Baltimore or Hyatt Regency Baltimore. If you plan to use a scooter, we recommend staying at the Hilton Baltimore since there is a skywalk between the Hilton Baltimore and convention center.
