ASA Lauds Decision to Leave Citizenship Question Off 2020 Census

After being blocked by the Supreme Court, President Donald Trump announced on July 11 that the administration will finally cease efforts to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. The ASA welcomes that decision, which puts at ease the most immediate threat to the data integrity of the census, though there is still much work to be done. ASA President Karen Kafadar, Executive Director Ron Wasserstein, and President-elect Rob Santos all weighed in to discuss the announcement.

ASA Welcomes Regina Nuzzo as Senior Advisor for Statistics Communication and Media Innovation

"Statistics is fun, fascinating, and powerful." That's the message Regina Nuzzo plans to share with a wide variety of audiences in her new role at the ASA. She joins the ASA to help improve communication of statistics policy issues, bring more statistics to journalists and journalism, and enhance public engagement and communication skills for statisticians and statistics students.

Major Medical Journal Updates Statistical Policy in Response to ASA Statement on P-Values

The New England Journal of Medicine has the highest impact factor in the world, and last Thursday it became the first major journal to release new guidelines for statistical reporting in response to the ASA Statement on P-Values and subsequent The American Statistician special issue on statistical inference. It is an important development in the ongoing discussion about statistical practices in research started by the ASA five years ago.
