Submit an Abstract
Members of the SDSS 2026 Program Committee are soliciting submissions for refereed and lightning presentations, as well as professional panel sessions. All refereed and lightning submissions should focus on one of the following four tracks:
- Data Science Applications
- Education & Professional Development
- Systems and Infrastructure for Applied Data Science
- AI and LLM Applications
Only online submissions will be accepted for consideration.
Submission opens: October 15, 2025
Submission closes: November 20, 2025
Decisions expected: January 7, 2026
Submit abstracts from October 15 – November 20, 2025 (11:59 p.m. ET). Submissions may be changed until the November 20 deadline. Decisions will be made in early January.
All abstract submissions received during this period will go through a blind review process by members of the SDSS Program Committee. The top-ranked submissions will be accepted for presentation at the conference. Although the conference acceptance rate varies depending on the number of submissions, we expect to accept roughly 50% of submissions.
SDSS uses a refereed approach to better align with the culture existing at many prestigious computer science and machine learning conferences and to prioritize diverse, high-impact work for extended talks. Presenters can also submit their talk to the Journal of Data Science for peer review and possible publication.
Abstracts not accepted for refereed talks may be considered for a lightning presentation.
Each abstract submission must consist of a 2,000-character abstract overview and two-page PDF document giving an extended abstract, which are blinded for review. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in being eliminated from consideration.
Use one of the template options listed below for formatting your extended abstract submission:
- LaTeX template for papers
- Overleaf project (check your PDF for spurious characters and fix them before submission)
- Microsoft Word template
Any references and figures should be included within the two pages, and author names should be omitted.
Refereed presentations are up to 25 minutes in length.
Registration is required for all program participants.
Submission opens: October 15, 2025
Submission closes: December 10, 2025
Decisions expected: January 15, 2026
The program committee is accepting panel session proposals focusing on cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder engagement, real-world deployment, and more. These panels will be made up of 3– panelists to speak on the topic, as well as a chair/moderator for the session.
Each panel session proposal should include a brief overview of the discussion—including expected takeaways for attendees—and the name, affiliation, and email for each of the invited panelists.
Accepted panel sessions will be 90 minutes in length.
Registration is required for all program participants.
Submission opens: January 7, 2026
Submission closes: February 5, 2026
Decisions expected: March 3, 2026
Abstracts for lightning sessions will be accepted for consideration from January 7 – February 5, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET).
Lightning sessions are a hybrid of oral and e-poster sessions. Presenters in a lightning session will give a brief (3–4 minute) talk that acts as an elevator pitch for their e-poster presentation. The electronic poster (e-poster)—presented later—also serves as an excellent teaching tool, allowing for direct and immediate feedback; broad exposure; and the ability to display extensive graphics, tables, and animations. An e-poster is like a traditional poster presentation but presented on a large computer screen. The ASA uses 42” LCD displays in the landscape position, and files must be saved in PDF format.
Lightning talks will be 3–4 minutes in length, followed by an e-poster presentation of up to 45 minutes in length.
Registration is required for all speakers, who must be in attendance for both parts of the presentation.
