Participation Limitations
To submit an invited session proposal, you will need the following:
- Session Type (invited paper or invited panel)
- Sponsor (select no more than three: outside organization; ASA committee; ASA section; sponsoring society; ASA journal)
- Session Title
- Session Description (include focus, content, timeliness, appeal, and session format)
- Session Organizer (include affiliation and email address)
- Session Chair (include affiliation and email address)
- Session Speakers and Discussants (include affiliation and email address)
Submitted proposals will be available for editing July 13 – September 7, 2023 (11:59 p.m. ET).

Participation Limitations
To submit a topic-contributed session proposal, you will need the following:
- Session Type (Topic-Contributed Paper or Topic-Contributed Panel)
- Sponsor (ASA Committee, ASA Section, Sponsoring Society). A pre-approved list is provided; select no more than three.
- Session Title
- Session Description (4,000-character maximum). Please provide a short description of the session including the following:
- Focus, content, timeliness, and appeal
- List of invited speakers/panelists, including affiliations and email addresses for each, and a tentative title for each presentation
- Format of session (e.g., chair, four speakers, and discussant)
- Session organizer, including affiliation and email address
- Session chair, including affiliation and email address
- Session speakers and any discussants, including affiliations and email addresses. Paper sessions must have 5 speakers, which includes a minimum of 3 paper presenters and a maximum of 2 discussants. Panel sessions should have 3–6 panelists.
Submitted proposals will be available for editing November 15–December 7, 2023 (11:59 p.m. ET).
To submit an abstract, you will need/need to do the following:
- Log in and pay* the JSM 2024 abstract submission fee/registration deposit.
- Go to the link provided in the emailed deposit confirmation and log in to begin your submission.
- Session Type (Contributed, Roundtable)
- Session Subtype (Paper, Speed, Poster, A.M. or P.M. Roundtable)
- Primary Sponsor (ASA Committee, ASA Section, JSM Sponsoring Society). A pre-approved list is provided.
- Abstract Title
- Abstract Text (1,200-character limit)
- Abstract Keywords
- Presenting author’s and co-authors’ contact information. Please note, there can only be one presenting author. Accurate and unique email addresses are required for all authors, or records may be merged.
- Note whether the abstract can be considered for alternate session subtypes. The program committee will not have space for all paper abstracts received. Acceptance is more likely if the presentation can be made in different session formats.
*Government Funding
We are aware that some federal government agencies are unable to release funds by the February 1, 2024, abstract submission deadline. Please send an email to meetings@amstat.org no later than January 25, 2024, to discuss your needs.
The 2024 JSM Proceedings were published digitally in the JSM Proceedings 2024 Zenodo community. Accepted papers were orally presented at the 2024 Joint Statistical Meetings in Portland, Oregon, and other ASA-sponsored meetings.
