Communication: A Two-Way Street (303051)

*David Morganstein, Westat

Communication can occur in many directions, all of which are important to us as statisticians. Unfortunately, there is sometimes cross-talk; other times, there is a “failure to communicate.” The most basic communication channel is between you and your colleagues or clients. When you are trying to understand the processes that affect your problem, there is also communication between various members of your or your client’s organization to consider: between staff and management, between departments, between new staff and old hands, between research units and operations, between members of a team or committee, and between you and the processes you are trying to improve.
