We believe statisticians can more effectively collaborate with nonstatisticians to solve real-world problems and implement solutions for their organization by learning essential nontechnical skills. In this talk, we will highlight three aspects of communication between statisticians and nonstatisticians necessary for effective statistical collaborations and consultations. We will discuss techniques for effective listening, summarizing, and paraphrasing; asking good questions; and explaining statistics to nonstatisticians. We will model these communication techniques during a role-play case study. Attendees will actively participate in the case study individually and in groups to practice these communication techniques. Our goal is to help unlock the collaborative potential of the attendees who will return to key roles within their organizations to use the power of statistics to solve real-world problems.
