Sample letter to encourage others to participate in your campaign:

Dear Friends,

I am leading an American Statistical Association legacy page campaign for [NAME] and writing to encourage you to contribute to the ASA in their honor.

An ASA legacy page is a way to celebrate the statistics profession and the individuals who enrich it. First, it is a meaningful and lasting way to honor a colleague, collaborator, mentor, professor, friend, or loved one and the impact they have had on the statistical community. Second, it provides financial support to the ASA’s programming and initiatives, thereby serving the future of the statistics profession.

Once this campaign reaches $5,000 in donations, [NAME] will receive a legacy page on the ASA website featuring their photo, a brief essay describing their accomplishments, and a list of individuals who contributed to the campaign.

To reach this goal in [NAME’S] honor, I am writing to coworkers, coauthors, coinvestigators, current and former students, friends, and family. [NAME] has been a colleague, mentor, and friend to me throughout my career. [INCLUDE SOMETHING PERSONAL ABOUT THE HONOREE.]

Your contribution will be put to effective use. The ASA uses contributions to fund a wide range of activities that do the following:

     • Highlight the impact of statisticians and data scientists and improve statistical literacy
     • Advocate for statisticians and the proper use of statistics among policymakers
     • Cultivate future leaders in statistics, data science, and artificial intelligence
     • Strengthen statistics, data science, and artificial intelligence education at all levels

You do not need to be a member of the ASA to donate in honor of [NAME]. Simply donate online or mail a check (with the individual’s name on the memo line) to:

Please feel free to forward this message to other colleagues, collaborators, and friends of [NAME], and thank you for your help on this legacy page campaign.

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]
