Who Is the ASA's REAL Founding Father?

The ASA has a rich and well-documented history. We have always known one of the association's founding fathers is George Shattuck; however, we found out in 2006 that the picture we had been using to represent Shattuck is really a photo of his son.

George Cheyne Shattuck has been represented with the following photo:

George Cheyne Shattuck Jr.

He is actually George Cheyne Shattuck Jr. Following is the true representation of the association's founding father:

George Cheyne Shattuck Sr.

David Levesque from Ohrstrom Library of St. Paul's School sent the ASA a picture of each of them, which he retrieved from a booklet called Pro Bono Publico: The Shattucks of Boston (Boston: Massachusetts Historical Society, 1971). The picture of Shattuck Sr. was painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1827. The picture of Shattuck Jr. was painted by E. T. Billings.
