STAT BOWL CONTESTANTS NEEDED – Deadline: June 20, 2007
Organizers Michael Anderson and Stephanie Cano at the University of Texas at San Antonio are looking for two more players to complete the line up for ASA Stat Bowl at JSM 2007 in Salt Lake City, scheduled for Tuesday, July 31, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Each student who plays in the Stat Bowl will receive up to $500 in travel reimbursement from ASA. The Stat Bowl is an individual competition and teams from individual institutions are not needed to play. Team points are kept and a team championship is awarded, but having a team is not a requirement. If you are interested in being a contestant or have other questions about the Bowl, please contact Michael Anderson, University of Texas at San Antonio, by no later than Wednesday, June 20, 2007.
JSM 2007 REGISTRATION – Early Bird Deadline – June 21, 2007
Registration for JSM 2007, to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, is open. Register before June 21, 2007, to take advantage of the Early Bird rates.
JSM 2007 HOUSING – Deadline – July 2, 2007
JSM housing is now open. Reservations will be taken through July 2, 2007. Check out the JSM housing page to see what hotels are available, make online reservations, or contact the housing office directly to make reservations. Hotel rooms are filling up quickly, so make your reservations early.

The First Workshop for Chairs of Programs in Statistics and Biostatistics will be held in Salt Lake City Friday and Saturday, July 27–28.
NISS/ASA WRITING WORKSHOP FOR JUNIOR RESEARCHERS – Salt Lake City, Utah – July 29, 2007
The ASA and National Institute of Statistical Sciences (with funding from the National Science Foundation) will jointly sponsor a writing workshop for junior researchers in Salt Lake City.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR – Salt Lake City, Utah – July 29, 2007
Make your JSM plans now to attend a FREE career development seminar on Sunday, July 29. Walter W. Piegorsch, professor at the University of Arizona and joint editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association, will dispel negative myths about publishing and give some guidelines on how to manage the publication process in a seminar titled "You Don't Need To Perish in Order To Publish."
MEETING WITHIN A MEETING (MWM): ASA PROGRAM FOR MATH/SCIENCE TEACHERS – Salt Lake City, Utah – July 30, 2007
The first MWM will take place during JSM this summer in Salt Lake City. MWM is for middle school/junior high math and science teachers who want to enhance their understanding and teaching of statistics within the math/science curriculum. Do you know any middle school/junior high teachers who might be interested in attending MWM?
BEYOND AP STATISTICS (BAPS) WORKSHOP – Salt Lake City, Utah – July 31, 2007
The ASA/NCTM Joint Committee is pleased to sponsor a Beyond AP Statistics (BAPS) Workshop at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings in Salt Lake City on July 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The BAPS workshop is offered for AP Statistics teachers and consists of enrichment material just beyond the basic AP syllabus. The cost of the workshop is $30, which covers all materials. To register for the workshop, contact Rebecca Nichols.

ASA ANNOUNCES 2007 ELECTION RESULTS
The ASA has announced the election of Sally C. Morton as president-elect of the Association’s Board of Directors. Morton, who is vice president of statistics and epidemiology for RTI International, will begin serving on January 1, 2008, and become the ASA president January 1, 2009. Election Results

The Section on Statistical Genetics and the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) are seeking nominations for the Sixth Annual Janet L. Norwood Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in the Statistical Sciences. The award recipient will be invited to deliver a lecture at UAB at the award ceremony, and will receive all expenses to deliver this lecture, a plaque, and a $5,000 prize.
