ASA/BJS STATISTICAL METHODOLOGICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM - Deadline: July 1, 2006
The ASA's Committee on Law and Justice Statistics announces a research grant program for the analysis of Bureau of Justice Statistics data. This program was designed to encourage the creative and appropriate use of these data to inform substantive and methodological issues. Young investigators are encouraged to apply. The ASA has announced the election of 60 of its members as Fellows of the Association, in recognition of outstanding professional contribution to and leadership in the field of statistical science. CALL FOR PAPERS: STATISTICS IN BIOPHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH
On July 1, 2006, the ASA's new journal, Statistics in Biopharmaceutical Research, will begin accepting manuscripts. Articles in the journal are expected to focus on the needs of researchers and applied statisticians in biopharmaceutical industries. The journal accepts papers discussing appropriate statistical methodology and information regarding the use of statistics in all phases of research, development, and practice in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, device, and diagnostics industries. LIVING TO 100: SURVIVAL TO ADVANCED AGE - CALL FOR PAPERS
The Society of Actuaries Committee on Living to 100 Research Symposia is organizing its third triennial international symposium on high age mortality and related issues, to be held in January 2008 in Orlando, Florida. Of interest are ages 60 and over, with special emphasis on ages 85 and over.

ASA SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The American Statistical Association is seeking an Executive Director to begin in 2007. The ideal candidate will have an innovative vision of the goals of the Association and the statistics profession. The Executive Director acts as the secretary of the Association, serves as a nonvoting member of the Board of Directors, and is a national spokesperson for the ASA. Major responsibilities include management of the national office in Alexandria, Virginia, and outreach to the statistical sciences professional community. View more information.

APPLIED STATISTICS IN A 21st CENTURY ENVIRONMENT WORKSHOP SERIES - June 29, 2006
The Committee on Applied Statisticians and the Section on Statistical Consulting are cosponsoring four web-based workshops. The first, Statistical Consulting Tips, with a Bayesian Bent, will be presented by Donald A. Berry, a professor at The University of Texas, Department of Biostatistics.
STATISTICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL METHODS FOR ORAL HEALTH RESEARCH - MONTREAL, QUEBEC - July 14-15, 2006
The International Biometric Society's Satellite Meeting, to be held at McGill University, will be of interest to statisticians active in oral health research and to oral health researchers with an interest in biostatistical methods. The meeting also will appeal to all who are interested in modeling complex data. Although the topics covered in this meeting are pertinent in many medical fields, they are particularly applicable to oral health research.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR - Seattle, Washington - August 6, 2006

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN SPATIAL STATISTICS - Klagenfurt, Austria - September 11-16, 2006
The International Summer School, held at the University of Klagenfurt, applies most of all to young researchers in academia, extra-university research, and industry who are interested in learning about recent developments, new methods, and applications in spatial statistics and related areas. Presentations will be made throughout the week by internationally renowned experts on their most recent advances in their respective fields.
2006 FDA/INDUSTRY STATISTICS WORKSHOP - Washington, DC - September 27-29, 2006
The 10th annual FDA/Industry Statistics workshop will be held September 27-29 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC. This year's workshop boasts 5 plenary sessions and numerous parallel sessions co-chaired by statisticians from industry, academia, and FDA. In addition, short courses on related topics are offered the first day of the workshop for additional fee.
