In an op-ed to the Washington Post, ASA Executive Director Ron Wasserstein writes that the addition of the citizenship question to the decennial questionnaire hasn't followed the government's own policies and procedures that demand such questions be well-tested in advance and that the government act responsibly to ensure data are accurate and reliable. It is not just a violation of federal law, he writes. "The American Statistical Association, the world's leading professional community of statisticians, goes further: It is statistical malpractice."
