Obtaining Federal Funding: Strategies for Effective Grant Writing
The National Science Foundation has multiple division- and foundation-wide competitions in which Statistics and Probability participate. Research objectives will indicate the program to which a proposal should be submitted. The NSF web page will inform potential investigators about new programs and competitions as well as about the scientific focus of these competitions. Upcoming Deadlines
Young Statistician Award Deadline: February 27, 2004
The International Indian Statistical Association (IISA) presents the Young Statistician Award to recognize the contribution of high quality in research, education, and applications. The 2004 award may be shared by up to two candidates who are not over 45 years on January 1, 2004, and have been members of IISA continuously since 2002 or life members of IISA since 2003. Nominations for the 2004 award must be received by February 27, 2004. Letters of nomination should be submitted electronically to the Chair of the Selection Committee, Professor Subir Ghosh, University of California at Riverside.
ASA Fellows Nominations Deadline: March 1, 2004
Each year, the ASA bestows the honorary title of Fellow on a select number of members. ASA Fellows are full members with established reputations who have made outstanding contributions in some aspect of statistical work. Given to no more than 1/3 of 1% of the membership, the title of Fellow is one of the highest honors within the Association. ASA Fellows are nominated by the membership; find out more about nominating a colleague.
March Deadlines for ASA Presidential Awards
The following ASA Presidential Awards have deadlines in March: the SPAIG Award and the W. J. Youden Award in Interlaboratory Testing. Get further details from the awards web page.

Registration Opens for the ASA Conference on Radiation and Health
Radiation in Realistic Environments: Interactions Between Radiation and Other Factors will be held June 27 - 30, 2004, in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Registration is limited 100 participants. This biannual meeting is designed to promote interactions and collaborations between scientists in the fields of radiation epidemiology and radiation biology. More information.
ASA Center for Statistics Education Announces Two New LearnSTAT Courses
The Center for Statistics Education is pleased to announce two new LearnStat course offerings for this spring: Intermediate/Advanced Bayesian Hierarchical Modeling, March 26, 2004, and Longitudinal and Incomplete Data, April 2, 2004. Each one-day course will be held near Washington, D.C. at the Arlington Campus Professional Center of George Mason University. Email LearnSTAT for further information.
