ASA White Paper Details How Statistical Science Can Advance Public, Private, and Big Data Research Projects
In a white paper, the ASA recommends a multidisciplinary approach comprised of statisticians, mathematicians, data scientists, and relevant domain scientists to tackle the challenges of the federal government’s Big Data Research and Development Initiative and similar private-sector projects. Discovery with Data: Leveraging Statistics with Computer Science to Transform Science and Society targets anyone working in Big Data research in the private sector, academia, or government. JSM 2015 Professional Development Proposal Submissions
Professional Development (PD) is a fundamental component of the professional life of statisticians, increasing the value of their contributions to society. PD is the process of improving and broadening the knowledge, skill, and personal qualities needed to be successful in the practice of statistics. Proposals for sessions will be accepted through September 30. ASA sections and/or chapters are encouraged to submit and co-sponsor proposals based on the interests of their membership. 2015 International Conference on Health Policy Statistics Accepting Session Proposals
ASA President-Elect David Morganstein sent letters to both House and Senate leaders in early September regarding H.R. 4012 and S. 2613—both titled "Secret Science Reform Act of 2014". The letter expressed concern and urged major revisions to the bills before further consideration. Read more.
