LATE-BREAKING SESSIONS AT JSM 2005
The 2005 Joint Statistical Meetings, to be held August 7 - 11 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will be the fourth JSM to feature late-breaking sessions. These are special invited sessions that highlight the role of statistics in recent developments in science, technology, and policy, covering important issues that arose too late to be included as part of the regular JSM invited program. HAVE YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE? HSR IMPACTS NOMINATIONS DEADLINE: July 29, 2005
AcademyHealth requests nominations of health services research that has made a positive impact on health policy and/or practice. Up to two winners will be selected, and each will receive $2,000. In addition, the winning research will be disseminated widely as part of AcademyHealth's ongoing effort to promote the field of health services research and communicate its value for health care decision making. The awards will be announced at the 2006 National Health Policy Conference held February 6 - 7. Registration, travel, and lodging will be provided for the winners. Research may be published or unpublished, a single study or a body of work, the work of an individual or a team. Nominators and nominees are not required to be AcademyHealth members, and self-nominations will be accepted. Details about the award and submitting a nomination.

PREP STATISTICAL CONCEPTS WORKSHOP -- San Luis Obispo, California, July 18 - 22, 2005
Sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America as part of its Professional Enhancement Programs (PREP) Project and cosponsored by the ASA and Duxbury-Brooks/Cole, this faculty development workshop is intended for college faculty who teach introductory statistics courses for mathematically inclined students. The workshop will be held on the campus of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, located on the beautiful central coast of California. It will begin with dinner on Monday, July 18 and conclude with lunch on Friday, July 22. The registration fee of $250 includes room and board as well as all workshop materials. The JSM Program is available online. All technical sessions, luncheons, CE courses, tours, and business and committee meetings have been scheduled. CAREER DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR AT JSM -- Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 7, 2005
Make plans to attend the free JSM Career Development Seminar "Communicating, Negotiating, and Gaining Influence: How Statisticians Can be Successful in the Office and in the Classroom" with Dr. Murray K. Clayton, University of Wisconsin-Madison. This seminar will take place Sunday, August 7, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the Minneapolis Convention Center Room 102C. BEYOND AP STATISTICS (BAPS) WORKSHOP -- Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 8, 2005
The ASA/NCTM Joint Committee is pleased to sponsor a Beyond AP Statistics (BAPS) Workshop at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings in Minneapolis on August 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The BAPS workshop is offered for AP Statistics teachers and consists of enrichment material just beyond the basic AP syllabus. The cost of the workshop is $30 which covers all materials. Beverages will be served in the morning and light snacks in the afternoon. Lunch will be on your own. JABES, JBES, AND JCGS NOW AVAILABLE ON JSTOR
The JSTOR database now houses all issues of JASA, TAS, Technometrics, JABES, JBES, and JCGS from inception through five years ago. Available to ASA members only. For more information and to purchase access for only $25 per title.
COPIES OF ASA BULLETIN NEEDED
JSTOR is seeking copies of Vols. 1-7 (1938-1947) of the American Statistical Association Bulletin, a previous title to The American Statistician. JSTOR also needs the following three sold-out issues: Vol. 45 (1) and Vol. 46 (1) of Technometrics and Vol. 22 (1) of the Journal of Business & Economic Statistics. JSTOR's objective is to archive and provide access back to Vol. 1 (1) for every JSTOR participating journal. If you know of any individual or library that might have copies of these volumes and is willing to loan or donate to JSTOR for this effort, please let us know. EDUCATIONAL AMBASSADOR SEARCH
The ASA is recruiting a Ph.D. in statistics from Argentina to serve as an Educational Ambassador. The successful candidate will receive a subsidy to attend two Annual Joint Statistical Meetings in the United States and to attend and teach a statistics course at JSM and in Argentina.
