2005 ASA AWARD CALL FOR NOMINATIONS EXCELLENCE IN STATISTICAL REPORTING AWARD (EISRA) DEADLINE: June 1, 2005
ASA members and media members may nominate an individual or organization for work published, broadcast, or televised during the 12 months ending May 31, 2005. The newly created Excellence in Statistical Reporting Award (EISRA) of the ASA encourages and recognizes members of the communications media who best display a commitment to statistics and advancing the role of the media in the science of statistics in public life. The winner of the 2005 EISRA will be notified by July 1, 2005 and will be honored with a plaque, proclamation, and a $1,000 prize at a ceremony at the 2005 JSM. Nominations are due June 1, 2005.
HAVE YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE? HSR IMPACTS: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS DEADLINE: July 29, 2005
AcademyHealth requests nominations of health services research that has made a positive impact on health policy and/or practice. Up to two winners will be selected, and each will receive $2,000. In addition, the winning research will be disseminated widely as part of AcademyHealth's ongoing effort to promote the field of health services research and communicate its value for health care decision making. The awards will be announced at the 2006 National Health Policy Conference February 6th & 7th, and the winners will receive complimentary registration, travel, and lodging to the conference. Research may be published or unpublished, a single study or a body of work, the work of an individual or a team. Nominators and nominees are not required to be AcademyHealth members, and self-nominations will be accepted. Details about the award and submitting a nomination.

JSM DRAFT MANUSCRIPTS & BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES DEADLINE: June 1, 2005
For all presentations (paper, panel, or poster), one copy of a complete draft manuscript and brief biographical sketch of the presenting author must be sent to the Session Chair by June 1, 2005. This requirement applies to all types of contributed papers, including poster presentations and invited sessions with discussants. Invited sessions with no discussant are exempt from this submission. A draft manuscript is proof of a "paper in progress." It can be a copy of your presentation slides or vu-graphs, a copy of your handouts, a detailed draft outline of your presentation, or a draft copy of your final manuscript. More information.

THE FIRST UNITED STATES CONFERENCE ON TEACHING STATISTICS (USCOTS) -- Columbus, OH, May 19-21, 2005
USCOTS will be hosted by CAUSE, the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education, at the Ohio State University, May 19 - 21, 2005. They are calling for proposals for the Spotlight Sessions (contributed posters, booths, activities, and demonstrations) on teaching and learning statistics. PREP STATISTICAL CONCEPTS WORKSHOP -- San Luis Obispo, CA, July 18-22, 2005
Sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America as part of its Professional Enhancement Programs (PREP) Project and cosponsored by the ASA and Duxbury-Brooks/Cole, this faculty development workshop is intended for college faculty who teach introductory statistics courses for mathematically inclined students. The workshop will be held on the campus of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, located on the beautiful central coast of California. It will begin with dinner on Monday, July 18 and conclude with lunch on Friday, July 22. The registration fee of $250 includes room and board as well as all workshop materials, but it does not include travel expenses to/from San Luis Obispo. Register for the workshop.

COPIES OF ASA BULLETIN NEEDED
JSTOR is seeking copies of Vols. 1-7 (1938-1947) of the American Statistical Association Bulletin, a previous title to The American Statistician. JSTOR also needs the following three sold-out issues: Vol. 45 (1) and Vol. 46 (1) of Technometrics and Vol. 22 (1) of the Journal of Business & Economic Statistics. JSTOR's objective is to archive and provide access back to Volume 1, Issue 1 for every JSTOR participating journal. If you know of any individual or library that might have copies of these volumes that they are willing to loan or donate to JSTOR for this effort, please let us know.
