Participation Limitations
To submit an invited session proposal, you will need the following:
- Session Type (Invited Paper or Invited Panel) – Note: If your session will have individual presentations, please select Invited Paper as your session type.
- Sponsor (Outside Organization, ASA Committee, ASA Section, Sponsoring Society, ASA Journal, Memorial) – A pre-approved list is provided; follow the instructions to select no more than three.
- Session Title
- Session Description – Please provide a short description of the session, including focus, content, timeliness, appeal, and format.
- Session Organizer(s) – including affiliation and email address.
- Session Chair – including affiliation and email address.
- Session Speakers and Discussants – including affiliation and email address.
Submitted proposals will be available for editing July 16 – September 3, 2025 (11:59 p.m. ET). Only complete submissions will be considered for the program.

Participation Limitations
To submit a topic-contributed session proposal, you will need the following:
- Session Type (Topic-Contributed Paper or Topic-Contributed Panel) Note: If your session will have individual presentations, please select Topic-Contributed Paper as your session type. There are no individual abstracts in a panel session.
- Sponsor (ASA Committee, ASA Section, Sponsoring Society). A pre-approved list is provided; select no more than three.
- Session Title
- Session Description (3,500 character maximum). Please provide a short description of the session including the following:
- Short description of session, including focus, content, timeliness, and appeal
- List of invited speakers/panelists and tentative title for each presentation
- Format of session (e.g., chair, four speakers, and discussant)
- Session Organizer(s), including affiliation and email address
- Session Chair, including affiliation and email address
- Session Speakers and/or Discussants, including affiliation and email address
Paper sessions must have 5 speakers, which includes a minimum of 3 paper presenters and a maximum of 2 discussants. Panel sessions should have 3–6 panelists.
Submitted proposals will be available for editing November 13–December 10, 2025 (11:59 p.m. ET). Only complete submissions will be considered for the program.
Note: Abstracts for accepted topic contributed sessions should be entered via the session builder beginning in early January 2026. Instructions will be included in acceptance notifications sent to session organizers.
Presentations may be given on any topic of statistical interest; however, authors are encouraged to submit papers on the theme set by 2026 ASA President Jeri Mulrow, “Communities in Action: Advancing Society.” Additionally, abstracts with a primary focus on statistical applications are encouraged.

Participation Limitations

- Log in and pay** the JSM 2026 abstract submission fee/registration deposit.
- Go to the link provided in the emailed deposit confirmation and log in to begin your submission.
- Session Type (Contributed, Roundtable)
- Session Subtype (Paper, Speed, Poster, A.M. or P.M. Roundtable)
- Primary Sponsor (ASA Committee, ASA Section, JSM Sponsoring Society). A pre-approved list is provided.
- Abstract Title
- Abstract Text (1,200-character limit)
- Abstract Keywords
- Presenting author's and co-author's contact information. Please note, there can only be one presenting author. Accurate and unique email addresses are required for all authors or records may be merged.

Note whether the abstract can be considered for alternate session subtypes. The program committee will not have space for all paper abstracts received. Acceptance is more likely if the presentation can be made in different session formats.
**Government Funding
We are aware that some federal government agencies are unable to release funds by the February 2, 2026, abstract submission deadline. Please send an email to meetings@amstat.org no later than January 28, 2026, to discuss your needs.
Presenters may elect to use one of the following formats:
- Contributed Paper
- Contributed Poster
- Speed Presentation
- Roundtable Discussion (A.M. or P.M.)
*If providing an abstract as part of an accepted invited or topic-contributed session, these should be entered via the session builder, not as a new submission. If you do not have access to the session builder, please email your session organizer.
After You Submit
The presenting author listed on each abstract will be notified via email in early April 2026 of the following:
- Session
- Date and time of session in which abstract has been programmed
- Contact information for session chair
- A link to the preliminary online program
- A link to where you can edit your abstract
- A link to detailed information about your responsibilities as a JSM organizer, chair, discussant, speaker, panelist, or poster presenter
- Draft manuscript deadlines
- Speaker Ready Room information (with additional details to follow as JSM approaches)
Revisions
You may revise your abstract text, title, and keywords or add coauthors from December 2, 2025, through February 2, 2026, and from the time of acceptance through April 30, 2026.
Proof of Progress
All presenters must send proof of a paper in progress to the appropriate JSM session chair by May 31, 2026. Proof of a paper in progress can be a draft manuscript, detailed outline, PowerPoint slides, etc. If you do not send the required proof, your paper may be deleted from the program and become ineligible for publication in the JSM Proceedings. This requirement applies to all contributed and topic-contributed speakers and invited sessions with discussants.
The 2026 JSM Proceedings will be published digitally in a Zenodo community (details to be provided in August). Authors will submit their papers between August 14, 2026, and October 9, 2026.
You may publish in the JSM Proceedings if you orally presented your paper or poster at JSM 2026 or one of the following ASA-sponsored conferences:

Paper Format and Page Limits
JSM Proceedings will be published in electronic format only. To maintain a uniform and professional look, all papers must conform to the formatting requirements. To help in this endeavor, the ASA has created a template for you to download and use.
Following are basic formatting guidelines:
- 8.5 x 11
- Margins: 1 in. top and bottom; 1.5 in. left and right
- Single-spaced
- Fully justified (figures and tables centered)
- 10-point Times New Roman body copy
- 11-point Times New Roman heading copy
- 16-point Times New Roman title copy
- Color graphics are acceptable
- Single column
- One space between sentences
- Tables and figures may come within your text or at the end of your paper
- No page limits
You must upload a nonsecured PDF file to Zenodo.
