This presentation will showcase promising new statistical analyses and dissemination strategies being implemented by federal agencies, based on reported crime data submitted to the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Analyses will demonstrate how NIBRS data can be used to measure community health and wellness across localities and how these data can be examined alongside other sources of community-level information to generate a more complete picture of public safety by place.
This presentation will outline how federal agencies are making NIBRS data more accessible to the public, for both experienced data scientists and academics, as well as novice users. Information will be presented on how the FBI and the Bureau of Justice Statistics developed online resources for NIBRS data, and plans for future resources and tools to improve public access to police crime data.
