Growing data privacy threats from expanded computing power and auxiliary data have increased interest in synthetic data and formal privacy for data stewards or curators, like the IRS and Bureau of Economic Analysis. While embracing these tools creates the opportunity to release new data with better privacy protections, many data curators lack the knowledge and/or computational tools to rapidly implement new technologies and continue to release essential data. Further, these new methods also offer opportunities to access new data sets and account for the previously ignored impacts of disclosure limitation on analyses. In this talk, I will share best practices for educating data users, practitioners, and curators on these state-of-the-art technologies to help them adapt and adjust analyses in a world with changing statistical disclosure limitation.
