Title: Using Dynamic Statistical Graphics to Enhance Your Data's Story
Author(s): Neil Polhemus*
Companies: Statgraphics Technologies, Inc.
Keywords: animation; statistical graphics; visualization; Covid-19; radar plots; dynamic
Abstract:

Adding animation to otherwise static statistical graphs can make your data's story come alive. Dynamic graphs are particularly useful in showing how data have evolved over time. This presentation includes animated maps, scatterplots and Pareto charts to show the evolution of Covid-19. It also includes an animated radar plot to show changes in polar sea ice, an animated wind rose to show changes in wind speed and direction at a selected location throughout the day, dynamic bubble charts to show changes in world demographics, an animated population pyramid to show changes in population distributions, a deviation dashboard to show changes in fish populations, and a dynamic spiral plot to show the evolution of a seasonal time series. In each case, aspects of the data that were difficult to see in a static display are vividly portrayed.
