Abstract:

The aim of the study was to investigate the determinant factors of the length of overnight stay of tourists in Pokhara, Nepal. Data for this study was collected from 275 visitors who stayed at least one night in Pokhara, Nepal. Zero truncated negative binomial and ordinary least square regression were used to estimate the strength and direction of the relationship between the length of stay and its determinant factors. In general, both methods produced similar estimates. The results suggested that frequency of visit, nationality, age, and hospitality services are major determinant factors of tourists’ length of stay. Repeat visitors had longer lengths of stay as compared to first-time visitors. Chinese tourists had longer stays as compared to Indian tourists and others. The age group of tourists below 25 years had longer stays as compared to older tourists. Satisfaction in hospitality services is a significant determinant factor of length of overnight stay. Contrary to the expectation variables, gender, education level, cost of stay, and behavior of the local people, are not significant. This study has significant implications for tourism business planners.
