Abstract:

Collaborative statisticians in academia often live in a paradox--they can be simultaneously highly valued by their collaborators and undervalued by their methodological peers. Their work helps others get promoted but often their contributions (as leaders) in collaborative research are not recognized by traditional promotion criteria. The purpose of this roundtable is to strategize about promotion pathways. Also, to discuss challenges and potential solutions for promotion committees that have trouble assessing the value of collaborative work. Our discussion will center around the following questions: How can we foster a greater understanding of the importance of collaborative statistics? How can we present and package our work in a way that leads to promotion? If there is not a clear pathway to successful promotion, who can we talk to, what can we do?
