Title: Quality Considerations for Collaborative Statisticians
Author(s): Naomi Brownstein*
Companies: Moffitt Cancer Center
Keywords: Collaboration; Consulting; Applied Statistics; Project Planning; Communication; Statistical Practice
Abstract:

The practice of statistics involves working with clients and collaborators to solve problems in science, medicine, business, and society via the application of statistical methods. Many statistical practitioners claim to strive for excellence throughout the collaborative process. However, detail is frequently lacking on how to measure and improve the quality of our practice as statisticians. This presentation highlights aspects of quality that should be considered throughout our workflow from the points of view of both the statistician and the client. Project planning, considerations of model and data, and customer service, are all discussed. Finally, a case study is presented along with challenges that arise in the quest for quality in applied statistics.
