Abstract:

We present a case study based introduction to text regression. Text regression involves using a bag of words approach to produce a document term matrix. We then analyze the document term matrix using penalized regression techniques such as the lasso and elastic net. These approaches are preferable for analysts who value interpretability over predictive power.
