Abstract:

The United Nations Strategic Development Goal 3 includes significant reductions in maternal and child mortality by 2030. Even before COVID-19, these goals were going to be difficult to meet. But many countries have made remarkable progress. We have been working with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and public health organizations to help create dashboards and data visualizations to identify the best practices in reducing maternal and child mortality and to share these practices and results widely. This presentation is a summary of our work in helping to create dashboards and data visualizations telling the stories of maternal and child mortality reductions and creating new understanding of what works, where, why, and how. We are using existing data from many different sources. Data visualizations on user-friendly platforms, especially those that are both dynamic and interactive, tell the stories that help public health organizations around the world understand what the most successful countries have done to reduce the number of maternal and child deaths.
