Abstract:

This session is in memory of Xiangrong Yin, who was a fellow of both IMS and ASA in 2019 and a professor at the University of Kentucky. On Tuesday, August 11th, 2020, Xiangrong Yin tragically passed away from a sudden heart attack after a longstanding, hidden struggle against coronary heart disease. The research was always Xiangrong's passion. Throughout his years as a professor, Xiangrong devoted countless numbers of hours to advising students and continuing his research. This memorial session will present Xiangrong Yin's professional contributions, leadership, and commitment to the field of statistical science, especially in the area of sufficient dimension reduction and sufficient variable selection. The invited panelists, who are Xiangrong's colleagues and co-authors, will share their memories or give technical talks.
