Title: DemoR: Tools for Teaching and Presenting R Code
Author(s): Kelly Bodwin* and Hunter Glanz
Companies: California Polytechnic State University and California Polytechnic State University
Keywords: education; R; RStudio
Abstract:

Statistics educators, researchers, and professionals are often called upon to present underlying code alongside data analyses and results. Although tools like R Markdown have made the sharing of R code increasingly easy, at present there is limited functionality for dynamically highlighting, formatting, and interacting with code in a presentation setting. In this talk, we present a new package, DemoR, to facilitate R code demonstration. We will illustrate how our functions can be used to create compelling presentations as well as interactive exercises for beginner students. We will also share our experiences in using these tools to improve introductory statistics courses for non-majors.
