Keywords: curriculum development; multidisciplinary; data science
Abstract:

Like many other colleges and universities, Iowa State University recently established new undergraduate programs in the emerging field of Data Science, including a minor, certificate, and major. In this paper, I will describe the process by which a committee of faculty and administrators from multiple departments and colleges developed the curriculum for an undergraduate major in Data Science. I will then share some of the issues that arose during the development of the curriculum and the solutions employed by the committee. Finally, based on my experiences and the current literature, I will identify some areas for statistics educators to consider for future multidisciplinary curriculum work in Statistics and Data Science.
