Abstract:
|
Surveys of income are complicated by the sensitive nature of the topic. Direct inquiry in social surveys into sensitive questions such as personal privacy or illegal behaviors often encounters refusal to answer or untrue response. In this regard, to collect reliable data where the unwillingness of respondents to provide truthful answers and estimation bias are reduced, randomized response techniques are among the most recommended methods. The multi-level randomized response technique was used to investigate the true level of income as well as to protect personal privacy. We propose a proportional odds model for the MRR data and illustrate it with the regular monthly income data collected in the Taiwan Social Change Survey.
