Title: Unearthing Correlations Between Crop Yields and Uncontrollable Factors
Author(s): Tyler Netherly* and Elizabeth Bell and Madison Trout and Professor Dennis Buckmaster

Keywords: agriculture; data science; open source; weather
Abstract:

Our poster focuses on predictive insights, using statistical analysis of crop yield and weather data. We are investigating correlations between crop yields and various meteorological factors such as rainfall, temperature, growing degree days, etc., using data from the US Department of Agriculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. We work under the Purdue Open Ag and Technology Systems center (OATS). Our research relies on open source software including R and Python; our larger research goal is to promote the mission of bringing open source to agriculture. This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. 1246818.
