Abstract:
|
As young statisticians embark on a career of collaborating with other scientists, it is imperative that they understand their role in making and communicating ethical decisions. This presentation provides an overview of material taught in a graduate-level statistical consulting course covering issues facing statistical practitioners in today's world of diverse cultural and moral beliefs. Specifically, it presents a model for understanding ethical decision making that is compatible with both western and eastern models of philosophy. Recent cases in scientific misconduct are presented to illustrate the issues facing today's statistician.
