Abstract #311380
Title: ANOVA and Multiple Tests of Hypotheses Controlling for Family-Wise Error Rate
Author(s): Marie Kraska*+
Companies: Auburn University
Keywords: family-wise error ; multiple comparisons ; Bonferroni ; Holm ; confidence intervals for multiple comparisons
Abstract:

Poster will illustrate applications of several different kinds of adjustments to address family-wise error rate (FWER) for multiple comparisons. Analysis of Variance procedures will be used for the illustrations. Confidence intervals and significance levels will be reported. Illustrations will be conducted using SPSS (Version 21.0). For example, Bonferroni, Tukey, Scheffe, Sidak, and Dunnett's C adjustments will be illustrated. In addition, Holm's Sequential Bonferroni step-down procedures for calculating significance levels will be included for the comparisons. Poster will include statistical results and interpretations. The rationale for this topic is that students often experience difficulty visualizing conservative and not so conservative confidence intervals and the relationship between alpha levels, confidence intervals, and adjustments for multiple tests of hypotheses to control for Type I errors.
