Abstract:
|
The introductory statistics class can be challenging for many students, but diverse students often face additional barriers that impede their academic success. We will discuss specific pedagogical techniques, which have been shown to empower students, and even encourage them to pursue further statistical education. Curriculum enhancements will be discussed, and specific resources will be presented. These tips serve to not only enhance the classroom experience for diverse students (based on race, gender, and sexual orientation), but they also set a tone for the class that gives each student a sense that they are entitled to work to their maximum potential.
