Abstract:

A recent article in The American Statistician (2003) reviews how statisticians perceive statistics journals. The results include a tabulation of how econometricians view statistics journals. Still unknown, however, is how other economists view statistics journals. Or, more broadly, to what extent do statistics journals influence refereed publications in business and economics. This article uses the methodology of citation analysis to address this question. The most prestigious journals in the fields of accounting, economics, finance, information systems, management, marketing, and operations management are identified. All articles in issues for the most recent five years of these journals are analyzed for citations of statistics journals. The results are surprising!
