Title: Projecting Hazard Rates for Aging Aircraft

Abstract:

The United States Air Force is being asked to use their aircraft beyond the original design life. Fatigue crack growth poses a serious threat to structural integrity of aging aircraft; however, the Air Force has limited information available about the extent of fatigue cracking in their fleets. This talk discusses one approach for predicting hazard rates for fatigue failures based on limited information and a simple model of how the crack size distribution progresses in time.
