Title: New Statistical Models for Joint Action of Two Loci in Complex Binary Traits and Their Analysis by MCMC Methods

Abstract:

Current statistical tools to analyze genetic interaction in complex binary traits are based on a set of generalized linear models, but it is well recognized such models fail to produce truly genetic interpretation. In this talk, we propose a statistical framework to model the joint action of two diallelic loci applicable to experimental crosses, which is named the allelic penetrance approach. With this approach, we develop a comprehensive number of statistical models that incorporate the Mendelian concepts of dominance and recessiveness. The formulation of these genetic models relies on the assumption that specific genotypic combinations at the two loci are required for the expression of the phenotype. For illustrative purposes, we fit these models in two genetic studies of cerebral malaria and Listeria monocytogenes infection in mice by resorting to MCMC methods.
