Abstract:

Parallel MRI is a recently developed imaging technique. With multiple antennas collecting resonance signals from different locations simultaneously, more information about the same object is obtained during a MR scan. Estimation of antenna sensitivity is important to Parallel MRI. Only with accurate sensitivity maps, can the individual antenna images be correctly combined. Existing estimation methods either require a separately acquired image as the reference or strong assumptions about the spatial decay of sensitivities. We present a new method that applies a linear model to the logarithm of the transformed antenna images. By solving the linear model with uniform sensitivity constraints, we are able to simultaneously estimate both the sensitivity and the true image. This method yields better estimates than previous methods and is based solely on the data collected from antennas; no extra reference image is needed. This model also is easily extendable to estimation for multiple transmitters, in which case we have even more observations so we are able to estimate both receiver and transmitter effects and the interactions between them.
