Abstract:

This paper develops semiparametric techniques for decomposing wage distribution changes over time when the data is subject to the self-selection bias that can arise when individuals are missing wages due to unemployment. These methods are then used to explore the determinants of changes in the wage distribution in the United States from 1993--2002 using data from the Current Population Survey's Monthly Outgoing Rotation group.
