Abstract:

The aim of this study is to validate the robust diagnostics approach as a tool for the analysis of the performance of a public service. This approach allows identifying singles or groups of units with particular characteristics that could help to implement new programs and policies aimed at improving the quality of the accomplished activities. As an example, some distinct analyses of efficiency and effectiveness of the university process are developed within the classical and the robust diagnostics approaches. The study is carried out using data set scollected from administrative offices as well as from surveys on the students' evaluations of the university teaching and on job opportunities of all the year 2000 graduates at the University of Florence.
