Description

Item Response Theory (IRT), a technique for evaluating the psychometric properties of questionnaires, was originally established in the field of educational testing. In this session, several studies will illustrate the benefits of this method of analysis for health-related research, including the use of IRT in the development and evaluation of a health-related quality of life questionnaire and the IRT analysis of a measure for assessing nicotine dependence. In addition, some advanced topics in IRT, such as item banking and the development of computerized adaptive tests, will be introduced.
