Description
Statistical methods of extreme values will be used to describe realistic models for baseball records. These models can answer questions about how unusual a record is or how long we might expect to wait to see the record broken. Methods of paired comparisons are shown to be useful in the BCS rankings of college football teams. Data from tennis matches are used to develop an "optimal" service strategy in tennis. Baseball data is reviewed to determine change points.
A common theme with these papers is the use of massive data sets and/or high speed computing to make complex statistical analysis feasible under real-time constraints.
