Abstract:

The presenter will demonstrate the use of Web-based pedagogy and online course management as reflected in CyberStats, a complete introductory statistics course available exclusively on the Web. CyberStats is currently being used by a number of colleges and universities, as well as by the US Navy, and was developed by a broadly-based group of statisticians. It has received support from the National Science Foundation and features a sophisticated use of online technology and pedagogy.

In CyberStats, the presenter will show how to use visualization and animation to teach difficult statistical concepts through interactive simulations. The presentation will discuss the multiple advantages of the Web in teaching and learning statistics, in both on-campus and distance learning environments. The topical coverage, as well as the applications in CyberStats, should interest students and professionals in a variety of fields.
