Author(s): Geoff Vining*+
Affiliation(s): Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Address: 406A Hutcheson Mall , Blacksburg, Virginia, 24061-0439,
Keywords: quality improvement ; industrial statistics
Abstract:

Six-Sigma is an important improvement tool in today's corporate environment. Six-Sigma uses many standard statistical techniques within a fairly structured problem solving approach. Many new graduates of academic statistics departments find themselves deeply involved in Six-Sigma programs soon after employment. Unfortunately, very few academic departments teach anything specifically about Six-Sigma in their curricula. This talk relays the experience at Virginia Tech as we begin to introduce formal Six-Sigma methodologies in a graduate course.
