Abstract:

We discuss the design and implementation of an open source system for the analysis of microarray data. The system is centered around R (www.r-project.org) and provides direct connections to specialty image storage libraries, and hierarchical (or object-oriented) databases for the storage of the relevant data. It combines, in a coherent fashion, quantitative microarray data, phenotypic data, and experimental data. The system is suitable for interactive use by statistician/programmers or for access through a browser based front-end by subject specialists.
