Relevance to Conference Goals (302643)

A significant portion of data sets produced by Federal and State agencies are collected via surveys. Anyone conducting statistical analyses on survey data should have a good understanding of sample design principles and features. This understanding is critical to making proper statistical estimates and to understanding the variability of survey estimates. Software specifically designed for use in calculating survey estimates and their sampling errors requires an understanding of the sampling principles of stratification, clustering and weighting. This short course is an applied discussion of these issues, and provides guidance on good statistical practice to survey analysts.
