Scaling Up Evaluation: Survey Scale Analysis in Education (302553)

Outside of student performance data and teacher evaluation, how is a school assessed? How can classroom culture or teacher efficacy be quantified, measured and reported to our audience? Through use of survey scale analysis, our organization was able to successfully address these issues. This topic is linked to the conference learning objectives in that statistically reliable survey scales were developed to become strong measures of school improvement that are easily understood by our audience. From these scales, we are able to offer a catalogue of services and measure specific topics of interest to policymakers and school administrators. Further, other schools and organizations interested in our evaluation services can easily understand these scales. To give our audience a comprehensive picture of what they need to address and where they should improve, we also expanded the scales after each implementation to measure the perceptions of students, teachers and community members. Additionally, we used graphs to depict the statistical findings that were easier to understand than the typical method of tabulating statistical results. By using scale analysis, surveying multiple populations and illustrating the findings, we were able to measure school success, communicate the findings effectively and improve how schools are evaluated.
