Qualifications of the Presenter: James L. Hess is a corporate Vice President and Officer of Leggett & Platt Incorporated, a global manufacturing company and S&P 500 member. He is a statistician who has successfully made the transition to business management. Jim has 36 years of work experience: 17 with Leggett & Platt, 15 with the DuPont Company, and the remainder with Kansas State University. During his career he has been a faculty member, statistical consultant, manager of statisticians, and an executive manager. Jim received his Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics from Southern Methodist University in 1977. His technical training and varied work experience with increasing responsibility bring insights into how statisticians are evaluated, deployed, and awarded. He has lived, studied, and implemented the content of this tutorial.
