FDA regulated products comprise almost a quarter of consumer spending in the United States. FDA has a need to communicate clearly and effectively with multiple constituencies, ranging from consumers to clinicians, and including regulated industry. Visualizations and graphics produced by open-source tools such R can help facilitate and enable effective communication, and in some cases, provide superior capabilities to many commercial products. We shall consider and discuss some use cases from several FDA centers, which include product label graphics, adverse event visualizations, data anomaly detection, and other applications.
