One way of understanding the relationship between geomagnetism and induced currents in ground-based systems is through the estimation of transfer functions. The models for these estimations assume that the complex data used are proper, however it has been shown [Chave, 2014] that the magnetotelluric responses are improper.
Improperiety arises when a complex value is correlated with its complex conjugate. In order to fully represent the correlation structure of improper data, this improriety must be accounted for.
We will examine some methods to be able to include the impropriety of geomagnetic data with relation to data of induced currents in transmission lines.
